Weekly Photo Challenge: Love

There are hundreds of family pictures I looked through while searching for photographs for this challenge, and other pictures of places and things that fill my heart, and love is such a vast topic that it was difficult to narrow down.

Love is more of an essence, permeating every area of my life, through every cell and fiber of my being, and, in its finest sense, love is beyond example or explanation.  As I looked at the pictures I have on my laptop I’m posting with now, a few hit the center of my heart: one of my mother and I that I took when we were at one of my favorite lakes a couple of summers ago, and one of my son and I at his High School graduation:

Weekly Photo Challenge: Illumination

I had several potential photographs for this challenge and I couldn’t choose, so here they are:

These two are in the town next to mine.  It was a beautiful twilight and the snow had recently stopped.  The illuminated street lights and car lights reflecting onto the snow was so lovely.

I took a trip to Manhattan this past September and stopped at the Empire State Building, but didn’t go up after seeing the ridiculous $25 observation deck price.  The lobby and interior hallways were good enough for me.Empire State Building Model Sept. 2012Empire State Bldg lobby Sept. 2012 Empire State interior ceiling Sept. 2012This past spring there was a ferocious thunder-storm and I videotaped it with my camera, and this is one of the stills from the video.  I didn’t realize it was that close to me until after I took the film.  The raised hair on my arms told me it was time to go back inside.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Geometry

I saw this out my window when I was thinking about a photograph for the Geometry Photo Challenge and I like the interplay of light and shadow creating this geometric pattern.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Foreign

I took the boys I occasionally watch to see dinosaur tracks a few months ago.  I told them there were no dinosaurs there, and no bones, but we could see where some of them had walked through mud and it had hardened into the rock.

The boys were disappointed anyway because I think they still expected something spectacular.  While we were there, a plane flew over, and I thought about what a strange juxtaposition that was with the dinosaur tracks.  The two together are very foreign.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Silhouette

I took this photograph in October of 2011:

I like the way the cloud above the roof resembles a whale, which was quite àpropos because the image looks out over the sea.  Twilight is my favorite time of day, and tree silhouettes are among my favorite things, although a silhouetted ocean view wins out over trees for me.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Happy

Finding this balloon made me happy.  I found it on the ground near the back door of my apartment the morning after my birthday last month.  There was tape on the back of the balloon, so it had probably been stuck to my back door, but there was no accompanying note, or card, nor was the balloon signed.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Every Day Life

I asked my son to take this picture of the rising moon, but I loved the street scene he captured more than the distant moon, even though it was a blue moon.

My son created this drawing when he was around nine or ten years old.  The only very inaccurate depiction is the stove.  Maybe that’s what he wished our stove looked like?  I thought this was a good entry for ‘Every day life’, even though it’s a photograph of a drawing. 🙂

Weekly Photo Challenge: Movement

I decided to add a Photo Challenge.  This may have been a prior challenge, I’m not positive, but if so, I missed it!

I was on the train home from Penn Station in Manhattan two days ago, and think this image captures movement pretty well:

Weekly Photo Challenge: Free Spirits

This picture my son took in Ireland feels like a good fit for this challenge.  I think it’s a statue of basketball players, but I’m not sure, because it also looks like someone holding the cookie jar above every one else’s heads!  However, I love the rainbow in the background.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Urban

I had so much fun in Providence, Rhode Island, last summer with my sister and some friends.  The urban landscape captivated me, and I took all these pictures without any thought that I’d share them at the time.  I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.  Cheers!

While the composition of this image pleases me, I mostly like how every person is facing the same direction in this shot.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Merge

I took these photos from the back porch of the third floor apartment I lived in a couple of years ago.  There had been a fairly distinct heart-shaped cloud that I missed getting a shot of earlier that day, so I was happily surprised to see the sky gods obliging me twice in one day.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Close

My friend took this picture of me when we were goofing around last month.  It’s a bit fuzzy, but this picture of May’s ‘super moon’ also represents ‘close’ for this week’s photography challenge:

Moon’s closest approach to the Earth.

Cheers!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Blue

I took a video of the storm raging last week, and was able to get this still from the video. I went inside after this because it was a bit too close for comfort.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Water

Inside the Guinness Brewery Storehouse, Dublin, Ireland

I love how a picture can bring you back to the moment it was taken – the sounds and smells – who you were with, what you were feeling, and what the day was like.

I am forever glad I got to go on this trip with my son, and I hope he feels the same.
